take a motorcycle training class. contact your local DMV/DOT and ask them when and where the next training class is at.

if you take the class and pass -- many states will allow you to skip taking a driving test to get your motorcycle license!

Something that is small and light. The CHP motorcycle training course in CA uses smaller 400 cc bikes for their classes. they are easy to ride and don't have too much power; you don't have to worry about the thing being a rocket or too heavy to handle. Hope this helps.

Just in case...If you already know how to ride a bicycle, that will really help! If not, I would start there first.

Take a motorcycle safety class and take your time to learn. Rookie riders and ambulance food and help keep undertakers wealthy.

Read "The Hurt Report's" conclusions on motorcycle accidents before you ride. You'll learn a lot and NO! Loud Pipes Do Not Save Lives. Safe Riding Saves Lives!

a 250cc ninja can get a rookie just as dead as a gsxr-750. he who disrespects the bike risks riding the asphalt the hard way. that bike sure the hell wont respect u, and it WILL put u in a hell of alot of pain if u ride beyond ur capabilities....250, or no 250, that bike can get u hurt. ride like a squid, and u will wind up on a car's windshield.

anything under 200cc is "safer"(cheaper too). Your best bet is to take a recognized rider training course. They'll have you street ready in a weekend. And to stick to smaller engines for your first few years. It may not be as macho, but it'll keep you alive and everyone's insurance rates lower ;)
