First and foremost... dont let age be a factor! I am 30 years old and in college now. My wife is 33 and studying nursing. It is NEVER too late. Any more, there is no traditional age for college because so many people take time off before they go back. I personally wasnt mature enough to take college seriously the first time I tried and basically flunked out. After 7 years of bouncing from job to job and having no real clear future, I joined the military and planned on making it a career. I blew out my knee and had a medical discharge. Now I had no fall back. Luckily, I have a very supportive wife and we decided it was time to get on track. We are now a year into college, both inducted into Phi Theta Kappa (the two-year college honor society), and on our way to making a better life for ourselves.

Second, a felony on your record doesnt always mean that you cant get a job. Yes, it will be asked on your applications, and it may be a factor when interviewed. A few things to remember. Most applications ask about the last 7 years, so by the time you finish up your degree, it will either be over 7 years old or very close. The most important thing is to make a positive impression and use a little spin control. If you are in an interview, make the interviewer understand that you made some mistakes in your past... but you realized that you were on the wrong path and had to make a positive change in your life. So you went back to school, got an education and a clear path for your life. you left those bad influences behind you and have moved forward with your life. Some things you could look at doing while in school are getting involved in some extra-curricular activities that show your changed life. Maybe volunteer with D.A.R.E. and other school programs. Show that you have turned a new leaf and are not only trying to make the best decisions for yourself, but help others keep off the path you chose. Not only will you feel better about your own situation, but it will show future employers that you are truly dedicated to a better, clean life.
Good luck with your decision, and congratulations on your life-changing path.

26 is definitely NOT too old to go back to college.Older people (even older than you are) go back to school ALL the time, and sometimes it's better because older students have more focus on what they'd like to do with their lives and they're not so much into partying and socializing as younger people are. (nothing wrong with that, as long as you do it in moderation.) At least you've completed a year at a city college and have worked for two years. It might be difficult to find a job if you have a felony, but if you do really well in school, and have proved you are a changed person, I think you could definitely find a good job. Don't give up on your dreams! Good luck to you.

Well, I can understand you not wanting to attend college being your age, but to be honest, I barely ever see people of the traditional college age in my classes anymore. Older people are going to college, I've had a 70yr old in one of my classes as well. Don't let that stop you, it's a really really bad idea and you'll regret it in the long run. Give it a chance. And believe me, you WILL find people MUCH older than you in your classes. Plus, it's not like when you're in college classes you have to say "Hi, I'm so and so and I am 26 years old." Your age will never be asked and people will probably think you're younger than you actually are anyways... Go to school, you're gonna need that degree when Bush leaves presidency.

Goodness, you're nonetheless youthful. I graduated from college while i grew to become into 40 3, only 6 months earlier my oldest toddler graduated from severe college. useful, you won't be like the final public of scholars, yet there will be older pupils on your instructions as nicely. i do no longer understand if a legal might have any impression on you turning out to be a social worker. I recommend contacting your community social provider organization and ask them. it might make you much extra alluring as you may nicely be a marvelous place sort for others who've made blunders, paid for that mistake and long previous directly to make some thing of your self. supply it a attempt to don't supply up on your self.

I know where you're coming from. I, myself, am also confused about my life now.

All I have to say is that if you don't have to pay too much money for school, then, by all means, get that degree. And don't worry about "being weird" around college students. All you have to do is just be nice and friendly (or at least try to be nice and friendly) and you'll blend in with the college community.

You seem to be a very good and decent person. It's time to turn your life around. You can do it!

I'm 31 and never went to college. I'm a single mother of four and have been married twice (first divorced and then widowed.) I plan on starting this coming fall. People our age going to college is the norm now!

My favorite reply to the question, "Do you know how old I'll be when I graduate if I start college now?" is this:
The same age you'll be if you don't start college.

People start college at ALL ages. People have been known to go to college in their 70s! You are NOT too old. In fact, the years of 'life' that you have can be a bonus.

I hope college helps you find yourself. Good luck.

people in college doesn't care about others' attire, attitude, especially age. the oldest person who graduated from college with a bachelor degree was 95 years old. and who cares about what others think of you (if they do make a deal out of it)...college students are in college to get a diploma, nothing else. and it'll be so worth it at the end!

no, your not to old, theres people of all ages going to college, sometimes they take a year or two off and come back. if you get a chance go down to your local college and take a look around, you'll be surprised at how many mid twenties, thirties, forties are going to class.
