The answer to this question really depends on how the truck is used. If you haul a lot of heavy loads or tow trailers a lot in hilly areas - especially in stop and go traffic - then about every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. If you rarely ever haul a heavy load and almost never tow a trailer and live in a somewhat flat area with little stop and go traffic then you should be fine at about every 70,000 miles to 80,000 miles. The most important thing to an automatic transmission is how hot it is running - transmission fluid temps below 175 degrees it will need very little servicing and last a very long time while temps above 200 degrees and it will need a whole lot of servicing and it will not last very long before it will need a rebuild.

If well maintained and not used for towing everyday a GM tranny will do over 200K.
