I have a HP Photosmart 8050 and I put a color photo ink cartrage in but the printer isnt recognizing that its color. It thinks that its a black cartrage and its printing out black and white pictures. How do I fix it?

The photo cartridge does not work alone. It has to be put in together with a color cartridge i.e. no slot in the carriage is blank.

I doubt your printer is not recognizing your photo as a black. Suspect that it is reverting to reserve mode in which it tries to make use of that one cartridge (photo) in order to print everything, hence mixing the colors to give you composite black. This wastes a bunch of ink, so suggest you stop it asap.

Try putting the color together with the photo. That should resolve your problem. Of course, this is assuming your print settings are correctly set to not print in black & white.

Please contact HP support. I recently had to contact HP for help. Received an e-mail response in a hour and their fix worked. HP also sent a followup e-mail to ensure everything worked out o.k. Can't beat that.
