...isn't this "war czar" position Bush is trying to create sort of like him trying to pawn his job off on someone else? Should the President be allowed to create a position of Official Fall Guy?

Where did you get the idea that Bush is going to appoint a "war Czar"? From the mainstream media? Or some loony lefty on Y!A? The position would be a military adviser on the White House staff. While the President is commander in Chief, very few Presidents have bee military experts. The last such was Eisenhower & before that you have to go back to the 19th century when several Civil War generals served as President.

There is no "is the President of the US the Commander in Chief" - read your Constitution - it is plainly spelled out.
The war creates a lot of Intel & general information & the president has a few other duties (you know domestic policies, foreign relations with other countries, & fighting off the Democrats who try to take the presidency) a "war czar" could help shift through & prioritize the information esp the general information. A central person with one focus - the war.
If you really believe President Bush, the Republicans or esp. the Democrats would allow the responsiblity to be passed to anyone but the President you are truly a foolish person. The President of the United States does & has always answered for all wars - thus the Commander in Chief. All military personnel answer to him & he answers to the citizens.
He does not make decisions by popular vote or by consesus - once again read Constitution. We are a Republic, we are not a democracy & never have been - they are 2 different goverments.

dear lame duc: i'm not sure what the point of your question truly is but a president can not arbitrarily create a post within his cabinet (especially without the express approval of congress). the president is the commander-in-chief of all armed forces. he is, as the sicilians would say, "capo du tutti capi" in military sense. look, if bush wishes to be the fall guy or go-to-guy for mistakes, he doesn't have to create an extra post within his cabinet - he's already exceeded his wildest wishes w/o really trying (sad to say). should the president be allowed to create another post within the cabinet/gov't for whatever reason? most positions within the govt today didn't exist 50-100 years ago & certainly weren't there way back when jefferson, adams (both) or lincoln. some have been renamed due to circumstances, etc., but making a new one? if needed, why not?

What I think is interesting is Bushie boy, as Comander-in-Chief, is supposed to be the top soldier guy.....and he was a draft dodging National Guard deadbeat who never showed up for duty and was officially AWOL for months. He has never served in combat or the regular Armed Forces. What in the hell does he know about how to fight a war...

Then, #2 guy, deadbeat Cheney managed to avoid the draft by paying for and receiving 6 deferments. What in the hell does he know about how to fight a war...

For 2 jerks who never served a day doing anything militarily productive, it's amazing they got us into this mess. I guess they know how to start one alright....

To add insult to injury, those military advisors who serve at the pleasure of the President, those professional soldiers on the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the General, he ignores them or blows them off.

Don't worry, Bushie boy will find someway to blame someone else for this mess - like the Democrats or Pelosi or Clinton...and he will leave the mess for someone else to clean up after he is gone...just like he's done all his life.

he has never tried to pawn anything off on a fall guy. he makes the decisions and he deals with it, you may think they're wrong, he may not, but he doesn't blame jack sh*t on anyone else. provide some evidence of your bull sh*t accusation. why do you guys always want to make these unfounded statements? in the form of a sarcastic question.

In the words of George Bush

" The question is, who ought to make that decision, the Congress or the commanders? As you know, my position is clear -- I'm the commander guy."
