COuld someone please help? Thanks a bunch

To how much water should 50. mL of 12 M hydrochloric acid be added top produce a 4.0 M solution?

I have no clue where to start from. Im guessing 50 mL is the V1 and 12 M is M1 and 4.0 M is M2 but what do i do?
Could you please show how to do this problem. Thanks a bunch.

Thanks a bunch to who help me really appreciate it.

Yup, you're right. M1V1 is for the original/ stock solution, while M2V2 is for the new solution or the solution you're making.

M1V1 = M2V2
V2 = M1V1/ M2

mL water = V2 - V1

You are almost there.

V1M1 = V2M2

You have all the pieces. Just solve for V2
