I think your are missing the point. Biologically speaking, "race" is a hopelessly vague concept. From a practical standpoint, the term "black" refers to an American social group with a particular status and history withiin the country. As we know, this history contains a long bout with discrimination. Now within this history of discimination there was a high premium placed upon "pure white blood". Consequently any person containing any noticeable fraction of african heritage was considered black (because of the fact that they were too tainted by that blood to be white, which was a "pure" condition). If a person appeared black at all, they were considered black, that was the social reality. Thus any such person belonged to the social group "black". Discussions about historical black acheivments are designed to celebrate the waning influence of discrimination within society that allows blacks to acheive more than any time before. Historically, this coache's complexion would have been a barrier because it would have defined him as "black" and less deserving. Now it is not a barrier.

What difference does color make unless you have issues with color? Dungy is one of the best coaches in the NFL today regardless of his race, religion and culture he practices.
He deserves that ring and championship.
