We are constantly thinking about something. This movement of thought never stops. We can all observe this in ourself. I wonder if there is anyone in this world who has a quiet mind.
Please try not to give ideas of what it would be like to have a quite mind and how one would achieve this. Just look into yourself.

Perhaps I should also ask this. Is mind quiet when it draws blank on a question? Or is the mind still searching for an answer?

Another point is meditation. When you are meditating, Isn't part of your consciousness still operating, watching the other thoughts, controlling them or whatever method you are using? You can be in a higher level of consciousness while meditating, but your thought is still in operation. Someone is doing the meditation. That someone is a part of your consciousness, i.e, it is still thought.

Yes, one can reach a stage in life when invocation of thoughts from the reservoir of mind plus and mind minus can be reduced to nil. This is only possible when one reaches the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Having controlled the five senses in totality... one ultimately establishes absolute control over the mind power.
This is an essential must for a serious seeker of spirituality as without establishing control over the senses and the mind... one cannot gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and subsequently salvation (moksha). Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed... all were man gods who gained enlightenment in their lifetime. This they made possible after controlling the five senses and the mind.
Having stilled the mind... they experienced absolute bliss! This is the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi when one comes face-to-face with God on one-to-one basis. This is an experience that cannot be expressed in words. The feeling of nothingness... the stage when not a single thought can pass through your brain without your permission. You have ultimately reached the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation!
Here I would like to make one thing clear. It is not mind that we still... it is the flow of thoughts into the brain that we still. No human being... rather no living being in the whole of Cosmos has an independent mind. We all have brain. Our brain acts as a receiving and a transmitting station. The thoughts are ever flowing from the reservoir of mind plus and mind minus.
If we desire invoking positive thoughts... we need to draw thoughts from the reservoir of mind plus. Those who indulge in negative thoughts... draw them from the reservoir of mind minus. No thought is ever created by an individual. Every single thought exists in the Cosmos from the beginning of time. The command station of mind plus and mind minus is all the time relaying thoughts throughout the Cosmos.
What to invoke and what not to invoke is the sole prerogative of every human being. Those with a serene attitude invoke positive thoughts. Those who indulge in wanton desires and materialistic riches invoke negative thoughts. No single thought passes through our brain on its own. As is our karma, so is the flow of thoughts.
When I went in search of God at 13 years of age... it was an uncharted territory I was to travel. 25 years further at the age of 37 I realized God. Having established absolute control over the five senses and the mind... I can commune with God on one-to-one basis every second of my life. I have reached the end of my cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation! Having stilled my mind... the flow of thoughts into the brain... I have also established absolute control over sleep. I just need five minutes of sleep every 24 hours. More on Mind - http://www.godrealized.org/mind_a_universal_phenomenon.html

Good question, and a very significant thing since a still mind opens the door to Self Realization in many spiritual traditions.
It's true that the mind is seemingly always active, even in the sleep state, which is why dreams are formed. It's also true that meditation is questionable in attaining this state of stillness because there is generally a single focus of thought at best, which is not stillness but more like concentration.
In my experience, a still mind isn't something to be achieved with effort, since this is mind effort. It comes about as desires fall away, movement into past and future ceases for a time, and the need to continually stimulate and entertain oneself with ones own thought and other distractions subsides. When it occurs for me, it seems to be because it's allowed. still relatively rare, though.

I believe when you are keenly aware of any of your senses your mind can be still. Just imagine sitting in a restaurant and you hear someone at a table near you say something that really interests you and gets your attention. You sit there and focus intently not wanting the person talking to know you are listinening. Your mind can be totally still while you focus on listening. Also what does your mind think about during an orgasm. Try being acutely aware of you surroundings, what does it smell like, what are you hearing, what does the chair you are sitting on feel like.
The wonderful part about being able to control thought to the extent that you can stop thinking for even a short time is that at the instant you are successfull all stress ceases immediately. When we are sleeping our conscious mind is dormant. What happens to your stress level while sleeping.
With practice you will become much better at it. The better you get at controlling your mind the better your concentration will become. The more efficient your thought process will become.

Not completely quiet, but completely without thought, yes there has been at least one such moment.
When I was swimming in a lake to a raft on an early morning, my mind went blank and the sensations of the experience just flooded my mind. I didn't think about the feelings, was just overcome by the feeling of the water flowing over my skin and the sparkle of the early morning sun on the water, like little jewels. The sound of birds and the water breaking were present also, and the smell of the blooms on the trees near the shore was also coming into me.
For about one minute, I was on automatic and just let the sensations take over.
Peace

Interesting question. I would guess no. One could be quiet in spirit-but mind I think not. Even those sleeping will register brain waves if tested.
One could be very calm but I think the brain is still operable. Extreme calm and Mind totally quiet are two different things--although one might FEEL their mind was subdued for a time.

two examples....
When someone says something that leaves you speechless,
and the split second you forget what you were going to say, before forming the thought 'what was I going to say'?
(a quiet mind does not serve human nature)
three cheers for thought!......
Edit to add:
Yeah like I said, I think it doesn't serve human nature, if we give up our thoughts and become void, what do we have?
There are so many ways to use serenity, but it is not the same...

Quiet....
Yup! There were such times that my mind was completely quiet!
It's just like saying "i dont care on any things right now"...
but i can't seem to understand why is this happening!
When I think sometimes, the thoughts just completely vanished and puff... my mind was really blank!
But Yes... I admit it to myself that there were times that my mind was completely quiet!
I just couldn't express the thoughts somehow!
