He was pretty good when he was with the Pirates though the injury and control problem bugs do have a tendency to find him. The biggest difference in his being with the Mets is he has an offense there he didn't have in Pittsburgh and that alone will get him tons of confidence knowing he doesn't have to be pperfect for them to win, that the team will score some runs when he pitches.

Heh, was just looking at that today. Living in Pittsburgh I've gotten to see so many of today's great players... they just never stay here =p. Ollie had great strikeout numbers when he was here but didn't post alot of wins because he got no support... I made a fantasy team of all ex-pirates still playing today and it made me sick....

1B: Jose Hernandez
2B: Abraham Nunez
SS: Ty WIgginton
3B: Aramis Ramirez
LF: Brian Giles
CF: Moises Alou
RF: Barry Bonds
C: Jason Kendall
SP: Oliver Perez
SP: Tim Wakefield
SP: Jon Lieber
SP: Jason Schmidt (Another one like Ollie)
MP: Julian Tavarez
RP: Al Reyes

I'm sure there's more I'm missing too...
You can check out all the former pirates at the link below,,, active players have a * by their name...

Perez's problem has always been his consistency - I'll give him credit for better overall numbers this year, but he's still throwing too many pitches and not going deep enough into games. He's fine as a #5 starter, but he'll need to step up a bit if he wants to be anything more than that.

Well a couple of years ago he was good with the Pirates but he is doing really good for the Mets.

He was already pretty good with Pirates. Injuries set him back however. Looks like he is getting it together again. Keeping fingers crossed.

it's not like he was ever bad he is just not suffering from injuries, and now he is getting run support. plus alot of people really didn't hear about him sense the Pirates really aren't a household team name like the mets or Yankees....

The Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson is a big reason why he's better. Good managing/coaching can do wonders.
