He's way more conservative than any of the Republican candidates so far. If he runs, he'd definitely be my choice for president. I hope he runs, because I just cannot choose between any of the candidates they have right now.

Its amazing to me how little historical perspective most of you have. Fred Thompson was a lawyer at least a decade before he became an actor. He was Assistant State DA in Tennessee and eventually ended up on the Congressional Watergate Committee as a counselor and played a rather large role. He was a lobbyist for in Westinghouse and GE in the early 80's.

He was approached to be an actor because of his commanding presence on screen during the Watergate hearings and during a hearing in 1977 when he took on the TN State parole board.

He was elected to the Senate from TN in 1994 to finish Al Gore's term. He was re-elected in a landslide in 1996. He chaired the Senate Committee on Governmental Relations while in office. He chose to leave the Senate because he said going in that he did not wish to make it his career.

So he has done a thing or two besides act.

He's a one term senator from tennessee who has magnificent screen presence which enables him to get work as an actor. Very little is known about him, but of course, he IS conservative which makes him a better candidate than any of the dumocraps.

I believe that he would make an excellent candidate and President. He's record in Tennessee is very impressive. It's really easy to find out his history by merely Googling his name, there are thousands of hits. I'll provide one below.

He's for closing the borders... I LIKE that!

He was a do nothing senator that voted the party line 100%.
How anybody can call him conservative is just plain funny.
Voting the party line when the party is ultra-liberal is in no way conservative.
His record in office in no way is experience for a Presidential candidate, that is the reason he is not running.

He's mainly an actor, I heard he was not a real hard working senator either. Guess we'll find out about him as time goes by.

Edit: Someone points out Thompson's resume - doesn't an effective candidate need to be able to be an effective communicator as well? So like I said, guess we'll find out about him, if he decides to run he'll let us know his qualifications and meanwhile he's an actor.

I ain't got any key issues. I like him and think he's strong but he lacks the experience to be qualified. AGAIN I do like Fred. But right now in his present position and level of expertise he will be in over his head...sad but true.

It takes a lot to be qualified to be the prez.

We haven't had a qualified prez in many years...agree or not. Lets hope someone steps forward!

He has a strong voting record as a Conservative.

I would call him a pragmatic conservative with wide-spread appeal.

As a politician ... he is a good actor. However, having said that.. he is about a thousand times better than Bush... but then so is my parakeet.
