.... is it actually Unacceptable (other than being politically incorrect)?

I don't use the 'r word', call things that are rubbish 'gay' or use the 'n word' or 'spastic or any of those.

LOL Nice answer, n4mwd!

Very true for many XP.... I don't like offending people, but it's so hard to tell what IS acceptable these days and what isn't (So much political correctness around it's untrue!)

You can refer to yourself as anything you like - but you should be aware that other people may be offended at being called 'Aspie' and that many people will not know what you mean, as it's not a usual abbreviation. There is a lot of current debate about whether it's preferable to say 'A person with a disability' (argument for this - the individual is a person first') or 'a disabled person' ( disabled by society, not an attribute of the person) and some people are offended if you say the one that they don't approve of; so it's a minefield out there. My instinct tells me that you are unwise to use the term about others unless you are really sure that they don't mind.

I have a son with Asperger's. He's only 9 so I wouldn't start calling him 'Aspie'. I think it's great that you call yourself that though. To me, it shows others that you have no problem with it so they shouldn't either. I have two other sons that are Dyslexic, one with attention deficit, both are extremely bright, as is my son with Asperger's. I have trouble working out which 'disability' to credit for this brightness!

What you call yourself is nodody's business but yours.
What people in the same group call each other is just fine if they are happy with it.
The only problem I see is when people call themselves things which are negative. Over time this can result in them having a negative image of themselves. We should always be kind to ourselves.
As to political correctness - to Hell with it!

Actually, it might be more PC than saying "suffering" from Asperger's because some people don't think they "suffer" from it and that it is a gift.It is shorter than saying the person with asperger's.

It's not unacceptable as you have asperger's. It would be unacceptable if anyone else used it to be unkind to you. I suppose it's the context you use it in.
