i was watching Without a Trace and the missing person might have had a miscarriage. Since they didn't say what it was i looked it up on dictionary.com and it said this

the expulsion of a fetus before it is viable, esp. between the third and seventh months of pregnancy; spontaneous abortion.

that doesn't make much sense to me ?

A spontaneous abortion/miscarriage is the death and discharge of a baby before it would normally be born at 42 weeks, by natural causes.

It can happen for many, many reasons. Most miscarriages happen before a woman even knows she was pregnant and appear to be a heavier-than-normal menstrual flow. Sometimes these happen because the baby didn't implant in the womb, or there was a huge genetic problem.

After the baby has implanted in a woman's uterus, and has developed for a few months, death can occur from physical problems, such as with the placenta, kinks in the umbilical cord, gross malformations like anencephaly or many other causes.

A miscarriage is NOT a medically induced abortion, btw.

a miscarriage is when for some reason the fetus could not survive in the mother's womb. Usually genetic problem that leads to the fetus not surviving, or if something happened to the mother that leads the fetus to not survive. Usually when a fetus dies earlier than 3 months is considered early pregnancy loss but usually if an abortion was not performed but somehow the fetus died it is referred to as miscarriage. In a miscarriage, just like an abortion the the fetus is removed, but the difference is the fetus is dead when removed from a miscarriage.

It's when the baby a pregnant woman is carrying dies inside her. She usually begins bleeding heavily and cramping, and the baby comes out lin the flow of blood...miscarriage is most common in the first 3 months and the baby is less than 2 inches long in those times, so it's not like giving birth, and many times a woman doesn't even see the embryo/fetus or even realize she was pregnant. Mostly it's like a heavy, painful, traumatic period...when you are pregannt and you lose the baby.

it's basically when the baby dies inside for no reason.
