I want to buy a text messaging plan so i can talk to my friends without using min on my phone. Before i had a plan i accidentally ran up the phone bill by texting when i shouldnt have and i lost my phone for about 2months. How do i convince my mom to let me buy the texting plan. I can get unlimited texts to anyone for 19$ a month and i make 20$ a month.

Depending on what the tax is in your state, the $20/month you make won't quite cover your texting plan. Furthermore, do you really want to spend everything you have on a texting plan? How old are you? What is so important that you have to be sending messages all the time? I'm with your mom. Maybe you should wait...

Show how responsible you can be for about 2 months then ask again nicely. Oh by the way there is tax's on that so it will be about 21 or 22 a month get a job that pays more.

I like armawlavizad's answer, You could lose your phone and tell you mom that you will replace it. Or you can tell her the benefits of getting a blackberry device. Don't concentrate too much on the sms part but emphasize on something else. Tell your mom that the school emails homework, assignments, grades, projects, etc. anything to show that school is on your mind and that you want to be on top of everything. Tell her you can store your homework and projects on the phone and print it at school. I'm sure she'll be impressed that your making school a priority and that the blackberry will help you stay on top of all your subjects.

offer to pay for half or all of the bill. explain that sometimes it is easier to get information by texting than by calling. Tell her that its your money and that you want to be a responsible teen. That if you get unlimited there is no possible way to run up your bill. Be calm and mature and i'm sure she'll say yes.

You could start by letting her know that with a texting plan, you can have a certain number to text messages and she only has to pay a fixed price, whereas if you don't have one, she would have to pay for each one individually, and that can be expensive if you text a lot.

I hope that helps.

You want to spend 95% of your money so you can text people?

Why not wait for the time where you can actually talk to them and save the $19. Seems like a waste of money.

I think after you ran up one bill your mother really can not trust you not to do this again. If you want a texting plan then you should save up your money and get it yourself, whether it is from doing errands, allowance, birthday money gifts etc etc.
pay for it yourself.

Let your mom know that cell phones cause brain tumors from when you hold the phone up to your head. Thus text messaging would be a better, safer, way to use your cellphone.
