I think this makes us great problem solvers!

I do the same thing. I know everything in this house that can be used as a weapon in self defense. If I am out and about, I always keep a keen eye open and my imagination on alert. I feel it's better to be safe than sorry.

As an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree, a Long Term Single Parent, and yes, also a Military Retiree (and I am female), I did plan my life out, and the path I wanted to take. YES, I do care about safety (around hazardous situations), storm/natural disaster awareness (and I live in a Hurricane Zone), and take precautions for MY safety at all times. I even had an 'EXIT STRATEGY' that I used to full advantage when I walked away (with my life and the lives of the children) from a short disaster of a marriage to a violent, abusive sociopathic ex -- and was more than happy to PAY to get the monster out of my life.

So for me, I do protect the most precious asset -- MY LIFE -- and I've been able to live and thrive despite adversity (including the most recent Burglary of MY HOME that my ex committed in August 2006 with the Willing help of an Adult Child).

it's because you have an obsession with control - you'll never change until you figure out why, or what particular events bring out your "worst case scenario" instincts - to consciously let go of that thought process is quite adventurous, but it's not worth doing unless you know with certainty that you can come back from the worst case scenario - most of the time i hope your "wcs" doesn't end up with you dead - that being the case, take a shot sometime, you might surprise yourself on the journey to the end -

Me too. Even for the best thought out plans. Ppl think I'm a 1/2 glass empty kind of gal, but when everybody else is boohooing about why the plan failed or what they can do, I already have the solution. If the first plan goes good, good, if not, that's ok, too, I have the solution. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

I tend to think to worst case scenarios on the bus. Unfortunately, I rarely find acceptable strategies for those cases...

All the time, especially when I know I'm gonna get in trouble I always think of the absolute worst thing that could happen and how to get out of it.

Worst Case Scenario: Parent's get divorced.

Exit Srategy: Try to get them together, or just keep going on with life, keeping good grades, and loving life.

I pray to God that will NEVER happen.

I do that all the time. People have made fun of me for it but I find it useful and relieving when a situation turns out better than I thought it would.
