A betta desires 80F water to be healthful. A goldfish is a chilly water fish and likes temperatures interior the severe 60's. A betta is a carnivore and eats meat based meals. A goldfish is an herbivore and eats plant based meals. One goldfish demands no less than a 20 gallon tank with relatively sturdy filtration. The Betta is innocent. The water is the culprit. You never HAVE to put a goldfish and a Betta in the same tank. Very bad idea.

Your betta didn't kill your goldfish. Bettas are quite peaceful fish that only attack other bettas. They would only very, very rarely mistake any other type of fish for another betta. That would be like you mistaking a Gorilla or chimp for a human. The goldfish died from some other cause, possibly shock from being moved and if anything the betta may have picked at the dead body.

I am a betta expert, i own 7 of them myself. bettas are "siamese fighting fish," and should NEVER be kept with other fish, even if its only temporary. Males are very aggresive, and will attack no matter what. Female bettas, however, can be kept in a community tank. NEVER keep females and males in the same tank...it is a death trap for the girl. Small comet goldfish and FEMALE bettas go nicely, not to mention the flashy colors. If you do keep those 2 together, feed them a tropical flake blend.

First of all, your betta did not eat your goldfish.Secondly,I'm sure he did not kill it. I am sure that the "tank" you put them in was very small and had very little oxygen in the water. The goldfish, since it makes lots of waste, died from stress and the betta, being hungry, started to feed on the dead or dying fish, since it is a meat eater.

Beta tend to be territorial fish and while they can get along with some other fish, it's not a very long list. Your SFF most likely attacked your goldfish.

VERY strange..unless your goldfish was a fancy-tailed variety. When bettas see flowing tails, they assume it's another male betta and start to fight. They attack guppies, too.
