besides ebay/craigslist/. where can i get a decent engine

Try your local salvage yards....call around and see what they have available and what their warranty is for a used engine--does it cover labor also...what year truck the engine came out of and mileage....whether it was a roll-over accident...etc. Otherwise, parts stores or GM dealership parts dept. can usually get long blocks for these too...check on warranty.
