Mostly Tradition.

It's our game. We created and perfected it. In Canada, hockey isn't just a game.. it's national pride. In so many ways, it's the one thing that all Canadians (almost) have in common. IN a country as diverse as this one, where the French hate the English, the English hate the French, the West hates the East, the East hates the West, the Maritimes are just out there, and the North hates everyone... hockey is the one thing that ties us all together. I know it sounds kinda weird, but I've done alot of thinking about this, and I'm beginning to think it's true.

Mostly, tradition. Everyone has grown up with the game for more than a century. It's been a standard activity in every Canadian city or town since leisure time started to be a factor in people's lives. You'd be amazed how many small towns in Canada have indoor hockey rinks.

The weather obviously is a factor in that. The winters can be long and cold in many parts of Canada, and hockey is a good way to have fun in cold temperatures.

The sport also is marketed well up there. First with radio and then with television, Hockey Night in Canada is a Saturday night fixture. I've talked to a lot of NHL players who say they grew up on it, that it was a dream to actually play on the broadcast. The junior leagues get plenty of attention as well.

I'd have to agree with the answerer above me. Hockey is something that transcends just being a sport in Canada. Though there are some marked differences between Canadians in different parts of the country but all are hockey fans. Its surprising really. Its too bad more Americans aren't exposed to it, they would see that its the most exciting sport to play!

Hockey is their national pastime. all of them like it. it somewhat is a northern pastime and that they are as north as you may get in North usa. The Canadians have been the final at hockey for YEARS! The Montreal Canadians nonetheless lead the league with the main Stanley Cup wins. they have 24. the subsequent maximum is Toronto Maple Leaf's and that they have got 13 wins. human beings in Canada only dominate the sport. it somewhat is of their blood. they're born with it. And he relatively ought to be a pink Wings fan... only asserting :)

CANADA IS HOCKEY TOWN
Check your favorite teams roster and see how many of those so called American teams are made up of at least 50% Canadian born players.

Because Canada is Hockey.

If our flag didn't have a maple leaf on it, it would probably have a hockey puck.

Canadian infants are fitted for their first pair of hockey skates at the same time they are fitted for their first pair of walking shoes...... honest!!!

For the same reason Americans love baseball, Europeans and South Americans love soccer.. It's what's been handed down from generation to generation..
