I'm not really a liberal, but I'll try to explain.
I don't have a problem with cigarettes, and indeed a great many don't. They just don't want to be breathing in the smoke from them. Just because someone smokes doesn't mean everyone in the immediate vicinity wants to smoke.
The same would apply to marijuana as well.
Basically, it's a matter of personal freedom. You can do whatever you want to yourself, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else in the process. You want to drink yourself stupid, fine. You want to smoke until you cough up your lungs, great. You want to get so high your brain fries, peace be with you. As long as you aren't bothering anyone else or endangering anyone else, I could really care less.
There's no double standard. I want to be able to eat a meal in a restaurant without inhaling someone else's toxic plume. I don't care if you're smoking tobacco or weed, I don't want it in my lungs.
Liberals also believe in supporting the second ammendment, as long as there is some sanity checks on people who by the weapons. We don't allow people to drive without at least passing some sort of rudimentary testing. We shouldn't just sell a gun to whoever wants one without at least doing some sort of check. It won't stop all the crazies out there but it may prevent some.
Liberals believe in the second ammendment with restrictions, just like how we have restrictions on on the first ammendment (shouting fire in a crowded theater for example).
Liberals also believe that everyone is entitled to the same rights which is what the ACLU tries to accomplish. This is very important to maintaining a free country. The second you start stripping away rights because of cause X, you'll find yourself on a slippery slope. Suddenly you'll find yourself with a government that starts assuming guilt, and it's up to you to prove otherwise. Or suddenly incarcerating people on a hunch and denying them representation to fight the charges, or even knowing what the charges are (sort of like...well...now).That means a murderer is entitled to the same rights as anyone else UNTIL judgement has been passed. Then, they get whatever punishement is coming to them.
You may think it sounds a little weird, but people have abused their power and innocents have been wrongly accused (and put to death) for crimes they did not commit.
Perhaps if you were a "poor minority" that had some rogue officers frame you for a drug deal and a murder, you might feel a little differnetly about what the ACLU does.
I think a bigger double standard is being die-hard pro-life and being die-hard pro war.

The NRA does help criminals. when the terrorists hijacked the jets and murdered thousands of people, the NRA and John Ashcroft didn't want the FBI or the CIA do background checks them to see if they bought weapons as well. They were afraid that it would have violated the terrorists 2nd amendment rights. This is a true story and is easily verifiable if googled. The ACLU protects free speech. What does that have to do with innocents? Innocent implies a crime was committed and the wrong people were convicted. ACLU is not a criminal law organization. They are a constitutional rights organization that protects our constitutional rights from the infringements of the government. Thank GOD they are there to protect our constitutional rights.
Cigarettes are known to cause cancer, lung disease, emphazema, heart disease etc. Marijuana has no such connections and actually has alot of health benefits they are finding.

Man am I going to watch the answers to this one, I have
to know the answer to this as well
Shakespeare:
Though there have been no deaths reported to marijuana
use, how about these side effects
* Trouble remembering things
* Sleepiness
* Anxiety
* Paranoia (feeling that people are “out to get you”)
* Altered time perception
* Tremors (shaking)
* Nausea
* Headache
* Coordination becoming worse
* Breathing problems
* Increased appetite
* Reduced blood flow to the brain
* Changes in the reproductive organs
and because of these there are greater dangers while
driving so how many auto deaths are related to MJ
Guns don't kill people, when was the First or even Last
time you witnessed a gun jumping up and shooting someone
on its own actions.
The ACLU may not have been charged with murder (but they
should have) how about Roe vs Wade, the ACLU was
in on that and since 1973 more that 50,000,000 babies
have been aborted, to me that is MURDER.
Put down your joint because you are showing all of the
signs of being a user.
EDIT:
X
I am pro-life and I support the war but my friend this is not
a double standard
On the Pro life side, What has an innocent baby done that
should cause him/her to lose their life, NOTHING !!
In a war, the persons you kill are trying to kill you and in case
you have been smoking to much weed the terrorists have
women and children packed up as human bombs.
Kill the Babies, Save the Whales That makes sense!

They dont need to justify it, they simply ignore it and say it is just the right makeing trouble.
Here is a few more points of far left hypocrisy.
how about the fact they claim to protect the freedom of speech but they try to silence Fox news for saying things they disagree with. see the 2004 presidential election where a leftist group did what they called "operation shut up" to silence Fox news's coverage of the election. they do it to christians and others they dislike as well...
or...
Or how some in the far left claim Bush is a fascist and a murderer while a number of their people honor Che Guerra the Communist agitator who helped eliminate and silence people who stood against the Communist uprising.
or...
My personal favorite... The left claim to be the party of love and understanding, they want equality and a world free from racism... but please take a look at this picture of a "Peace rally" in San Fransisco... http://www.zombietime.com/global_day_of_action_march_18_2006/IMG_5825.JPG
http://www.protectourheritagepac.org/images/2_16_03_rally.jpeg - or how about this one?
hmmm... these are people on the left correct? i mean I am not looking at a white supremacy rally am i? funny the things thy claim the "right" and Conservatives are for, like racism and hate seem pretty abundant in the left as well... isn't that called.... Hypocrisy...
Yup, hypocrisy at it's finest.
Now I am not slamming all the left, but they really should take a hard look at what they support.

i'm uncertain that outlawing cigarettes and legalizing marijuana is a factor of "The Left" schedule. in my opinion, i could like that eveyone merely speedy smoking all herbs and weeds. a minimum of, do no longer smoke something close to me. The NRA, a minimum of, facilitates criminal get right of entry to to firearms. by skill of opposing all regulations on the sale and distribution of firearms, the NRA creates an ecosystem the place there are an abundance of weapons in this united states. it relatively is lots much less complicated for criminals to get weapons. The ACLU does no longer shelter the harmless. It protects civil liberties. in specific cases meaning that the ACLU has to hold its nostril and paintings with some disgusting characters. Freedom of speech is a civil precise. The ACLU will preserve freedom of speech for all U.S. electorate. you should thank the ACLU. It protects your precise to declare all the flaws which you're putting in this internet site.

Liberals do not want to outlaw cigarettes. Smoking provides way too much revenue. They Just want to complain and raise cigarette taxes.
Liberals don't want to eliminate crime. They are ruled by the father of lies. They want to create more crime and more poverty so they can tax the rich more in a silly attempt to help the poor by slowing the economy.
It's all about power and money. The best way for liberals to get more power is to cause more poverty and misery. They provoke people to envy each other and distrust towards the police.

Because cigarettes kill and cause disease to millions every day and yet nobody has ever died from taking Marijuana. That is a medical fact.
Aslo guns kill people and the NRA refuse to accept this yet I cannot recall the Civil Liberties Union being convicted of murder or causing death.
Stop being a fool and open your eyes man. Stupidity is a feeble excuse for such a retarded question.

Not me. I support gun ownership. I think if someone wants to smoke, cigarettes or marijuana, it is their choice, not mine to make for them. I do not believe special interest groups should have so much political pull.

Thoughts? That's a good one. The Loopy left can't even justify their existance let alone their thoughts. Don't bother presenting them with logic, it's like teaching a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig.
