I don't know much about cars and would like to learn. What is the best way to learn how to make basic repairs?

Buy an old piece of junk car that needs constant repairs.
Maybe a Pontiac Grand Am.

Your local tech will have courses on auto repair - and it's a lot cheaper than trying to learn from your mistakes!

Go to a maintenance class at a local tech college.
