all the tests I've seen on Harley oil put it at the bottom of the barrel,, worst oil in any comparison. Even their synthetic oil is sub par. It's not like Harley owns an oil well,, they contract with some company to bottle their oil,, and no doubt take the lowest bid.
I've used Valvoline 20-W-50 in my bikes and also the Shell Rotella 15-W-40,, Diesel oil is the best regular oil you can get ,, only thing better would be synthetic. I use Rotella cuz it can work in the wet clutch,, some oils have so many additives in them it will ruin the clutch.
If Rotella is used in a 500HP Cat diesel and it runs 1 1/2 million miles,, I'd bet it will work in a Harley...

I would not put diesel oil in your hd or any other bike for that matter the rev tech oil or hd brand oil is good oil , a 20 /50 is good if you live where it s cold u can run a str wt but at ShastaCountyCustoms.com we put the 20/ 50 rev tech in our bikes and have had great luck so far. that diesel oil is made for heavy duty trucks it does not work well in air cooled motors

At one point, at least, H-D recommended the use of diesel spec crankcase oil in the event H-D motor oil wasn't available. The motor oil specified for use in diesel crankcases has additives not found in most other oil that help to carry off heat.

bluffmike is right. And they still do.
If HD oil is not available, use diesel rated motor oil. They also recommend bringing it to the dealer to have the oil changed back afterwards. Personally, I think that's because so many don't even change their own oil anymore.

Nobody who spends the kind of scratch on a Harley would try to save $2.00 by not putting the right kind of oil in your scoot. My advice is use the recommended oil.
