My boyfriend and I recently purchased a Gold Nugget after our large pleco died and he was the last one to die in my recent
"Fish tank crisis" What had happend was i started a bigger fish tank and i didnt have any god baceteria in it adn my fish started to all die. Well i let my tank cycle and we have new fish in the tank and they have been there for id say about 3 weeks. No deaths... everything is fine. So while we were out shopping around we found the gold nugget and he was doing GREAT he wasnt being shy or anything. Well we've been busy the past few days and havent really been paying any attention to the fish (sitting and staring at it for an hour lol) as we usually do. So we didnt notice a change in him except our 2 irredescent sharks and our paroon shark started showing signs of Ich. So i took the carbon filter out, put my ich stuff in, put the carbon filter back in the next day, did a 25% water change, then put more ich stuff in there. Well, this morning i noticed my fish tank

sprang a leak and so we went and bought a new fish tank, and all that stuff. Well we kept most of all the old water (to keep the good bacteria) and put it into our new 75 gallon tank (we decided to go bigger lol.) well while we were taking our fish out the gold nugget was hardly moving. He was almost lifeless. My boyfriend tried to touch him to move him and he wouldnt move and about 3 minutes later he finally decided to. Now he will move slightly and hes upside down but wiggle to flip back on his stomach... I have no idea whats going on with him. My boyfriend said the stomach is concave.... im sure thats important... not sure what it means. Please help! Ive heard stories about people having algae eaters and once one dies, they can never keep on in their tank after...

It's possible the pleco was poisoned by the ich medication. They are quite sensitive to most ich medications and if you used it full strength that could well be the problem. On the down side of that possibility is the fact that he will probably not recover and certainly won't as long as you are treating the tank and of course you will need to treat the tank for at least 7-10 days to be rid of all the ich. Unless you can get him out of that tank and into freshwater it's just going to continue to get worse. There isn't much else to try honestly.

As the above answer states, salt and heat can be an excellent treatment option for ich, but once you start one method you should see it through unless it proves not to work at all.

Well you should usually quarantine a new fish for a week to make sure it's not sick. And also the ick medication may have irritated him, contrary to popular belief those medicines can be toxic.

I use salt in the tank. I don't know exact measurements, i just add a TBSP of salt (dissolved in water) to my tank about 4 times a day for like 3 days, and increase the heat. Fish can withstand salinity to a certain degree. I had an awful out break. Took like a month to get rid of, but with salt, heat, water changes, and cleaning the gravel, I got over it without losing any fish. I had 4 new fish in there too, along with my other 6 that i had before them.

When utilising an parasite remedy you could desire to check out Mardel. I've used it in my tanks, and it has helped drastically. You could desire to additionally deal with the entire tank seeing that in case your different fish have parasites probabilities are your different fish could have them too. It may not damage the fish to regard the entire tank. When utilising the remedy comply with the instructions precisely! You have got to take the carbon clear out off seeing that so as to make the remedy vain because it breaks it down. After you deal with the tank you desire to do a partial water difference of approximately 25%.
