It proves that Iraq was an independent nation who had not invited US troops into its territory. Until Congress agreed to war, this had to be the case since a treaty was signed after GW-1. However, there was an internationally approved no-fly zone in the north and south that US troops were in daily which is technically part of Iraq - they just were not based there. As for the cause being oil, why would the US go in to protect Russian and French ownings when they didn't want us to? That would be preposterous. That being said, however, oil is the lifeblood of western civilization. No oil, no western civilization (until something else is viable). If there ever was a good reason to fight, it would be to keep oil within the free trade system and to prevent its use for blackmail.

There were no American troops in Iraq until we invaded.
I don't see how this would be "proof" that the war isn't about oil, if you believe that sort of thing.
For example, we had a crippled country that could barely front a military, a contained dictator, and completely miserable intelligence that was promoted as being "proof" for an invasion.
Now at the same time, we had two countries well on the road to producing nuclear weapons, with real evidence to back it up and both with a history of human rights violations (Iran and North Korea). We also knew that both countries were working on missle technologies for long range missles (NK tested a few of them).
Now if this were a war strategy game, who would you target? Known string threats or a contained weak threat.
So what other reasons were there to invade Iraq? Both Iran and NK were known to abuse human rights. Both Iran and NK have active weapons programs. Both Iran and NK were working on nuclear technology. And we had strong evidence to support this.
So why did we invade Iraq? And why did we invade Iraq before Afghanistan was complete?
The conspiracy theorist immediately jump to the next most obvious reason, the Iraqi Oil Fields. So we invade Iraq, set up a US firendly government, and profit (both nationally and privately).
But the conspiracy theorists aren't pulling this out of thin air. The US has done this before (See Shah of Iran).
The "Liberal Theory about Al Quaeda" is not a theory, its a fact. It has nothing to do with being conservative or liberal.
Saddam Hussein tolerated absolutely no challenges to his power and authority. Any one or group who did met a not so pleasant ending. He was also secular leader, and progressive. He allowed women to be educated and to work for example.
He did not trust Al Quaeda. He viewed the group as a potential threat to his power. The last thing he wanted was religious fanatics questioning how he ran his country. While he no doubt agreed with their "policy" towards the US, that was about as far as he was willing to go.
You should do some research into Hussein, how he came to power and how he ran his country. You should pay particular attention to the '80's. That's when we were supporting him and turned a blind eye to some of the more atrocious acts he did.

Lets look at the facts. Fact: We went into Iraq because of intel stating Iraq was compiling WMDs, in the meantime we had a country that was openly building WMDs and threatening their use (N. Korea). Yet, we went into Iraq - the difference? N. Korea doesn't have one of the greatest reserves of oil in the world. Fact: An American ambassador tried to publicly express fallacies in the intel report about WMDs. Fact: His wife was publicly outed as working for the CIA - which is protected information. Fact: George Bush, and Dick Cheney's wealth is based in oil, and both come from oil rich families. Fact: Dick Cheney is the former CEO of Haliburton, a company that received the great majority of war contracts and has seen billions in profits. Fact: Condoleeza Rice used to serve on the Board of Directors for Mobile Oil Company. Fact: Chief of Staff Andrew Clark served on the Board of Director of GM Automotive. Fact: George Bush's father started the war with Iraq, and did not finish it. Fact: the 9/11 terrorists were trained in Afghanistan, and Bin Laden is suspected to be hiding there - yet we committed a fraction of the number of troops there that were and are committed to Iraq.
So, yes your statement is true, and so is the above.

Where is your source that al Qaeda was in Iraq to start with? They actually went to Iraq after the loyal Bushie invasion of Iraq. Saddam Hussein would not have put up with the likes of al Qaeda in Iraq.

We fought Iraqis in 1991 to push them out of Kuwait. And although we might have not had troops there we had military presence in the region for long time, all through out 1990s. Our airforce carried out bombing missions in Iraq during 90s after 1991 war. We enforced no fly zones. We blew up buildings, people...etc.
Kind a sad people don't realize we've been in Iraq for long time.

Hmmm.
It's also true that Iraq had nothing to do with 09/11.
The Iraqi invasion has everything to do with oil; Saddam Hussein was taking steps to trade his oil using euros, to cut the US out of a significant part of the oil market.
That's why Rumsfeld had the Oil Ministry guarded while crowds were allowed to loot the main library and museum.

Operation Desert Storm/shield. the argument was then as it is now No more Blood for Oil. We have had troops in the middle east for a longer time than we'd like to admit. There was the tragic Marine bombing in Beirut.
