History channel recently had a 2 hour show about dragons. According to this show dragons are and always have been nonexistant (with the exceptions of myths, stories, and art). History Channel doesnt lie.

When fossils were first being uncovered no one had any idea as to how the different parts should be put together. This was even true up until recently when everyone agreed that dinosaurs tails did not need to drag on the groundm brontosauruses could come out of the water and T-rex could probably run fairly fast.
If you look through books on Saurians you will find--with the exception of fire breathing--all the physical attributes of Dragons, except they are spread singularly through many different species of saurians. Therefor, when the primal bones were found the animals imaged to fit the bones when fleshed out in drawing, were dragons.

Very likely, the stories of dragons, griffins, and other mythological creatures came from people who found dinosaur bones in ancient times and couldn't put them in any other context but magical beasts that once roamed the earth.
Brontosaurus = Dragon? Not too far-fetched looking at the fossilized bones.

I do believe that dragons could easily have been types of dinosaurs that did not go extinct from the ice age. As for fossils, I couldn't say.....but then, I believe Nessie could be the same thing.

They are considered mythical creatures, although I did come across a theory that they were once creatures who frequented the physical world but as it became more polluted and populated they withdrew to the astral plane and above. Who knows, maybe they are still around somewhere.

"Some believe that the dragon may have had a real-life counterpart from which the various legends arose — typically dinosaurs or other archosaurs are mentioned as a possibility — but there is no physical evidence to support this claim ..."

It was documented that there were once dragons about 3000 years ago but they were killed off for food to feed He-Man's and Skeletor's families
