Good point. I CLEARLY remember before the congressional elections this past year, Pelosi and others claiming that if Democrats won the majority, one of the issues that would be resolved was gas prices. Claims came foward that becoase of administration policy, they could not reduce prices until sich time that democrats got majority votes in house and Senate.

one very important thing to also remember the democrats historicaly want higher taxes to pay for social programs and now they are on this "Stop Global warming" kick.

5 gets you 20 if the democrats do take real control we will not be looking at $3 a gallon we probably will be looking at $4 a gallon because they will want to tax the gas and use the money to "save the planent".

the funniest part will be the libberals who are going insane right now at the gas prices who will suddenly cheer the gas hike as a "bold step to saveing the planet".

Gas is made up of three major costs: The price of oil, the price of refining+profit margin, and taxation.

The government has little to do with the price of oil, unless they introduce instability/stability into an oil region which causes prices to rise/fall.

The government really doesn't have much to do with the cost of refining or profit margins either.

However, most of the price of gas is various federal, state, and local taxes.

If you want the price of gas to go down, talk to the government. If you really want an effective tax break, get the government to cut the gas taxes.

But basically, everything is driven by supply and demand. The supply of oil has not been increasing, but the demand has been growing enormously. The price of oil goes up, and suddenly the price of everything else goes up as well (transporatation of goods relies on oil, as well as a number of consumer products).

As a liberal I will admit that those statements are part of partisan campaign war games. Neither elected liberals nor conservatives are all that concerned about prices at the pump. But they know the middle class is so they have to pretend to be. Prices are high because the oil companies are controlling supply in order to reap the highest price possible for their product. Since these companies are privately owned and have deep pockets, it is very difficult for congress or the white house to do much about it. So basically we are getting shafted from Exxon, Mobil...not congress or the white house.

They let success go to their head and they all purchased gas guzzling vehicles, like the tree hugger Al Gore. Naturally this increased the demand which increased the price. Truthfully, none of these democommies have the foggiest idea about economics and the REAL world.

What were the gas prices like under Carter? Despite the lies that the Democrats spew (like Bush lied about the war) they can't do any more about gas prices than anyone else can. It's just more Democrat lies.

Oh, no. No you do no longer. For 8 years you neo-cons argued that the president of the US is thoroughly helpless to do something with gas expenses. You confident us that by no potential shape or sort ought to the president impression expenses up OR down. Now, except you have been flatly mendacity then, the president as we communicate has no source to alter gas expenses. you weren't mendacity, have been you?

I would like to know since when does our government have anything to do with the price of OPEC oil. If the saudi arabians want 70.00 a barrel for their oil, how does the fedral government have anything to do with that. Republican or Democrat. So my answer to this is the Democrats are wrong with this theory.

they can't and won't do squat about it. they need all the support they can get, that is why they sway in the wind with there political opinions. if they actually stood by one issue and not flopping to public view they would be drummed out of office so fast you could even say flip flop. they are holding on by there finger tips. wait until the 08 elections when the republican win both the presidency and congress, and then we will see the mud fly from them.

Gas prices are due to people paying for it. Stop buying, for the long term, and prices will drop. That is basic Economics.
