I'm watching star trek tech and I'm wondering.

wouldn't there be hallow deck addictions.

That would be "holodeck", as in hologram. From the Greek "holos" meaning whole. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if some people wouldn't want to live an imaginary life instead of a real one. They'd probably pay well for it, too.

I am pretty sure this should be spelled "holo" from holography.
Hollow deck sounds a bit "empty", don't you think?
That said, if someone is able to fell happy just living in a make believe world, instead of being out there and dealing with reality, it could be their choice. Lots of people already do not want anything to do with reality and live off the gossip in supermarket check out rag, consume drugs, or are named Paris Hilton...
But they do not contribute much to the world either.

Of course there would be in today's society. But in Star Trek TNG and upwards, the society is a little more responsible and capable of stopping
