On May 15th, there is going to be a "gas-out". All americans are encouraged to avoid filling up their gas tanks on that day. It was done in 1997, and nearly cost the oil companys $3,000,000,000. That is 3 billion dollars. Overnight gas prices dropped nearly 30 cents a gallon. If you are tired of paying $30.00-$50.00 to fill up your car, then join real americans who have had enough of oil companies reporting billion dollar profits each quarter. I know you guys are out there. LET'S DO THIS!! If you can't, then at least pass this on to as many people as you can. Let's show the "have's and the have mores" that the little people have the will and the power to make a stand and be heard!

The oil companies will lose billions, and they will lower the prices. I would know..... It is great to unite as americans, unlike the cynics who say it won't work, It will work, and yes they may make some money before or after, but not before they take a huge hit, which in turn lowers their stocks. I'M ALL IN!!!!!!

The only way to fight higher prices of gas is to substitute the energy ,such as ethanol, biofuel,or solar fuel batteries; because the oil companies have us over a barrel, one day of not buying gas ,will only set the oil companies to raise there prices in the future to make the difference they lost.

Absolutely pointless. You'll just buy just as much gas on May 14 or 16. It did not cause any price changes in 1997, that's simply untrue.
If you really want to stick it to them, you need to buy less gas, not just buy it on a different day. That means driving less (and using alternatives like public transportation, biking, or walking) , or driving a more fuel-efficient car. Until then, all this whining about gas prices as if we have a God-given right to cheap gas is pointless and immature.

Absolutely pointless.
We're just going to have to buy the same gas later. That's not going to change anything.
It's not just Oil companies making billions. Lots of corporations make multi-billion dollar profits and have nothing to do with oil. Have you ever heard of Wal-Mart? Micro$oft? Berkshire Hathaway?

I'm in but, as you can see, despite the other boycotts the oil companies are richer than most countries. As long as there are politicians for sale the oil companies will be the winners.

It's a crock of bull cuz the gas companies will get their money anyway when everyone fills up the day before or the day after so these silly "gas outs" are totally pointless!

I will restrain myself from driving just so i can fill up my tank that day, and those of my friends. This is the stupidest idea I have heard since we were supposed to boycott retail stores n the Presidential inauguration. Perhaps we should get our government to lower gas taxes to get the prices down, it would be a much more immediate result.

Nil,
If the oil companies lose billions due to this 'gas out' they'll have to make it up someplace - and guess who'll be paying that bill?

I'm participating in the boycott, too, just as I did in 1974 and 1997.
