A^2+b^2=36
and a+b=8 or a=8-b
substitute this into the first equation to get: (8-b)^2+b^2=36
or 64-16b+b^2+b^2=36
or 2b^2-16b+28=0
or b^2-8b+14=0
[8+-sqrt(64-56)]/2 or [4+-sqrt(2)]
So b=4+sqrt(2) and a=4-sqrt(2)
ab/2= (16-2)/2=7
the answer is 7

The sides of the triangle have lengths x, y, and 6. You get the following two equations:
x^2 + y^2 = 6^2
x + y + 6 =14
Solve for x and y.
Area = 1/2 * x * y
