In Ireland we use paper bags now. If you want a plastic bag you have to pay 15c. There is far less mess now and it is better for the environment. Although having said that one day I went out of the shop with my paper bag and it started lashing rain and the bag broke. But still you can bring your own shopping bag

the most obvious answer is paper ,however paper means felling trees to make wood pulp...plastic is therefore the better option as it is man made from chemicals and can be re produced indefintely without chopping down forests,,,the proviso being that it should bio degradable,,that it is made to decay and destroy itself in sunlight should be observed though or a planet of plastic bags will appear.so i would say plastic is the better choice though..though i can understand the paper choosers

it takes 1000 years for a plastic bag to completley decompose. we destroy trees for paper, which are essential for our existence. then we have the people at the store asking that question. the only solution i see is to smack the person who asks the question. after enough smacks, someone will come up with a solution.

Paper all the way. Can be used over and over and over and over and over (you get the point), unlike plastic.
