Graphic Novels can usually get away with things that cant be done in main stream comics. One example of this is minor amounts of nudity and a little more realistic bloodshed. As a rule, the stories tend to be a bit more complex and darker. Hope this helps a little

The difference between a comic book and a graphic novel?
A comic book issue could a chapter of a graphic novel. Well Let's take for example "Star Wars Dark Empire" It would take six issues of the comic books to tell the whole story. The graphic novel would show the whole story in one book.

Well one the Graphic is longer and two Comics are usely in color and Graphic novels arent.

Technically Graphic Novels are stories that have only been released in a perfect binding (no staples ) format and contain original (non reprinted) stories.

besides size the format is slightly differnt panels can be more artistic is how there presented and usualy one shots (concluded story in one book)
