Sounds like Braxton-Hicks contractions. Staying properly hydrated can help reduce or eliminate them so encourage her to drink plenty of water.

The others are right. The tight stomach means she's having Braxton Hicks contractions. She could also be feeling a sharp pain up inside. That is the cervix stretching from the weight of the baby. Also the round ligaments that hold up the uterus sometimes can be painful as the baby grows. All are part of pregnancy. She will be fine. Let her know how tough she is and how proud you are of her for toughing it out for your baby.

It's probably Braxton Hicks contractions, it's just her body getting ready for labor contractions. Buy her a copy of What to Expect When Expecting, this book will explain a lot, and have her call her doctor and describe the pains, just to be sure. Good luck & congrats.

Unfortunately, over the internet, we can't tell how much pain she's in, we also don't know her medical history or how long it's been going on. Even if we did, few of us would be qualified to tell you everything's okay, don't worry about it.
I would call her doctor and explain the pains to him. Get a educated response, this isn't something you should play around with.
However, if she's having any type of discharge with it, call the dr. on the way to the hospital.

Well, braxton-hicks contractions are normal at this point in pregnancy, but I'm not so sure about the sharp pains. Are they on the side, low, closer to her hips? If so, that is normal. It is ligament pain. Otherwise, you need to call her doctor.

That sounds like contractions!
Contractions hurt and make the uterus hard.
How long do the sharp pains last? Or are they pretty quick?
You need to call her doctor ASAP!
Its not normal for Braxton Hicks contractions to be occurring this early in her pregnancy.
Don't risk your wife's or your unborn baby's health by listening to people who tell you its nothing to worry about!
It would be safer to talk to the doctor.

I had Braxton-Hicks contractions starting in the 5th month. But they didn't hurt. That does worry me, and I think it's time to call the doctor. Better safe than sorry in this case.
Best of luck with your new baby!

Sounds like Braxton-Hicks contractions AKA warm up contractions. My OB explained to me that it is like a marathon, you wouldn't jump off he couch without training and try to compete. Her body is warming up for the big event.
