well it depends on the person who is looking at you, remember some of the stars dress down and some of the smartest people in the world wear sweatsuits, it just depends. Usually if someone is dressed to the "nines" they say (meaning dressed perfectly matching) people assume they are smart and educated because they dressed with such matching accessories.

Hm well, it really depends. Some people who are smart may dress in a style people may consider 'not smart', like gangster or punk. But today, most people probably think one would be smart if they dress properly and presentable, perhaps like a bussinessman. Some people say that if you dress like a nerd and wear glasses, you're probably smart, although it is not at all true. Basically, it's kind of impossible to tell if one is smart just by looking at the way they dress, although you would give someone a better impression if you dress properly.

Nope, but you can tell a person is vain.
Never judge a book by its cover. Have you ever seen pictures of Einstein looking smart? He tried a few times, but he always looked like a mad man in a suit.
People tell me that I'm intelligent, but I don't take care in presenting myself very well unless I really have to. That's because I have better things to do, like come up with new ideas, etc.
I tend to find the people who aren't as intelligent as their peers dress smart to make them look more professional, rather than contribute to the ideas, etc.

BS. Some very rich people who dress well are dumber than a box of rocks. [ie- George Bush]. Most masters don't feel the need to "dress for success". So maybe dress is more an indicator of soul age.

OK... I will serve someone at work who's wearing a beautifully tailored suit, wearing cufflinks, using blue tooth.....then he asks for blue slims (large cigarette papers) then I wonder....how smart is that???
Waccy baccy really doesn't bother me, but premature dementia is on the increase????? (have tried it myself, to be honest and it really does nothing for me)!!! Have heard of the benefits for pain relief etc. but personally it don't do it for me....! lol
Then, a expensive Merc, Saab or BMW will pull in and the driver is wearing a tracksuit and a hoodie and purchases a Ribena! He ain't smartly dressed, but how smart is he to get the money for a posh car??? (Maybe he the dealer)!?
But, alas! Peeps do judge a book by the cover...regardless, human nature....?
Maybe you have both.....babe with brains AND style!!! grrrrrrrrrrrr

Smart can mean intelligent or well turned out,if you have an eye for clothes and ware them well it can make a good impression on some people. I think it is just as important to be accepted even if you are wareing rags, but not everyone sees it that way.

Probably what made u look smarter was your confidence in the way you dressed. Dressing smartly is one thing. Looking smart when dressed nicely is another thing.

Surprisingly, according to the dictionary, you CAN say someone dresses smartly!
From www.dictionary.com definition for smart:
"11. dashingly or impressively neat or trim in appearance, as persons, dress, etc."
That doesn't mean they're intelligent, it just means they dress "smart."

No. A lot of people who are smart don't care what others think.
