I live in NJ and the low temperature tonight is 38. The trees arrived is quart containers and are only about 7 inches tall. If I do need to cover them overnight, what should I use?

since they are evergreen you shohld not need to worry as well the temp would need to be well below freezing to harm even sensitive plants just make sure to have some mulch around them for good measure it will keep the frost off of the roots and keep in the moisture in summer

Better safe than sorry. So go ahead and cover them. What ever you use news papers, cardboard boxes, just make sure it dosent touch the plant. It can cause damage to the plant.
If you can just put them in the house until morning.
