Yes your females can be kept in a community tank...they get along with any non agressive tropical fish...Marigolds are just fine, you can also put any platys or mollys, any kind of tetra, dwarf guramies, kilies....ect...
As for a 10 gal tank, that is not nearly enough room...You need one gallon per INCH of fish, female bettas will get 2 to 3 inches a peice fo 2 of them need about a 5 gal tank, then the 6 marigolds should have about 12 gals themselves, if you want to put the 2 bettas with the 6 marigolds you need alteast a 20 gal tank....
A 29 gal would be a good idea for a small community tank...a 55 or 75 usually make an ideal tank for fish owners...
As for hiding spots, just get some decorations that you like and some artificial plants for them to hide in, as long as them can hide in or behind the decor then they'll be fine...
Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!

Yes, you can put a few female bettas together in a community tank. That's not a problem at all. Be sure to use at least three though so one doesn't pick on another too much. As for what can go with them... that's pretty much any peaceful community fish that's not so small the bettas can eat it and not so large it can eat the bettas. Marigold swords would be just fine.

ok, not sure how much help this will be. I have my male betta in a tank with my cherry barbs and mollys. I'm using a 30 gallon tank. The main thing to watch is what size the fish you want to use will get, and what type of air supply/filter you have. The more oxygen, and fish that stay under 2 inches, the more fish you can have. Don't get aggressive fish like cichlids, as they will fight the bettas.

relies upon on the betta's character. The tank is amazingly small, so it additionally will boost a query. In a fifty 5 gallon community, the betta could have his very own territory and the community fish could too. There'd be much less aggression if any and in the experience that your betta replaced into aggressive, the fish ought to relatively ruin out. a ten gallon, i does no longer propose something with him.

As you said, you can't put the female Bettas with the male, but you can keep the male or the females with the marigold swords. Your example is much too crowded. If you want to keep that many platys with those Bettas, then you would need a 29 gallon tank or large. If your asking for a setup for your swords and Bettas then heres an example:
29 gallon tank with hood
2-3 caves
Well planted with silk plants(plastic is less comfortable for Betta's)
driftwood
fine gravel or sand
As for Betta compatibility, you can't keep anything too large with him. That means no sharks, no barbs(except cherry and gold barbs), no large gouramis, no territorial bottom dwellers (aggressive loaches, plecos, algae eaters), and no feisty cichlids.
As for what you can keep with him heres a list:
dwarf gouramis
dwarf cichlids
small tetras
otocinclus catfish
dojo/weather loach
platys,swordtails, and guppies
rasboras
killifish

10 gallon with a good filter and maybe even a sponge filter for good luck
www.aqualandpetsplus.com
is my fav. fish website
what I would do is get some native fish but thats just my NANFA side of my brain talking
6 neon tetras or 6 cherry barbs and 2 synodontis or corys
the fish depend on your local pH ask a fish nut at a good pet store if your water is hard or soft
is
hard get the barbs and the synodontis
soft get the tetras and corys
my 2 cents

First of all, the general rule with fish is one fish per gallon of water. So, if you have a 10 gallon tank, you would only want to have ten fish or living creatures in the tank.
Here are some website that give advice as to what can go in with bettas:
http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/bettacompat.htm
http://www.fishpondinfo.com/betta.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betta_fish
You should also make a stop into a local fish store. Don't go to Petco or a place liekthat, but to a store which only carries fish. They are specialists and will be able to give you really accurate information on tanks and the fish that go in them.

You have already received great answers. I wanted to add that you will also need to provide your female betta with a place with less current for her to rest. Bettas like calmer water so if your filter is strong, like mine, you will need to get creative.

Practically any fish...
Females are alot less aggressive, so you can probably keep them with Guppies.
