His workstation resides on the 140.25.194.0/23 network segment. Why can't richard communicate with the LAN?

2 reasons:

1. x.y.197.t will not work in x.y.194.t network.

2. Subnet mask specifically says 23 ip addresses only. He is already at number 255. Should be a number between 1 to 22. (0 reserved typically for router/server, 23 reserved as broadcast IP)

Yeah, what Tracy L said. A xxx.xxx.xxx.255 is used only for broadcasting so that is not a valid IP and second, he is not on the same subnet as the rest of the other workstations.

I don't like being the bearer of bad news, but having others do your homework will not help you actually learn the stuff for future use. If you need help learning the stuff, shoot me an email and I will try to help you out. When its test time, you might not be able to ask for help on the answers, but if you have had help learning how to come up with the correct answers. A lot of the certification exams in networking are closed book, closed for notes, and closed to outside help. (ie Microsoft Certifications, CompTIA, ect.)

jointly as i think of it relatively is conceivable to get a area from an IP address, a random individual ought to in all probability merely hint the IP to the business employer that provides you with information superhighway, yet i do no longer think of it is going added than that. you may in all probability merely get a precise area from the business employer in case you have some extreme be counted, like attempting to get information some criminal or great crime.

Because he isn't on that network segment. His IP is on xxx.xxx.197.xxx ( and 255 wont work period) and the rest are on xxx.xxx.194.xxx so there are two reasons.
