That stupid cd everyone keeps asking you about will have the drivers for the ethernet card that is not working.

And yes that is most likely why your internet is not working.

The only way to get the ethernet controller working again is to install the proper drivers so XP can talk to it. There is no way for any of us to know what type of card (Manufacturer and model number) you are using.

You can try using this software to try and find the manufacturer and model number of your ethernet controller and then go onto the internet and search for the correct drivers.

If this does not tell you then your only other option is to go and purchase a new ethernet controller and install it. A new one will come with a cd with drivers on it.

Go to device manager, click on Ethernet controller with a question mark Network adapter. Right click properties. go to details tab. there must be something like PCI\VEN_ xxxx (4 digit) & DEV_xxxx. then go to http://www.pcidatabase.com/ and put the for digit in device search to search for the make or model of the network adapter. then try to search a driver for it in google or the maker of the network adapter manufacture
