My dad was looking under the hood of my 1991 Honda Accord LX with 229,000 miles. He pulled out the spark plug wires, and found two of them soaked in oil. Another one was slightly oily. I've heard this could be rings, or the head gasket. What could be wrong with my car?

If oil was just on the plug wires, it most likely is the valvle cover gasket. It's at the top of the motor and is a relatively easy/cheap fix. Oil is probably leaking out, running down the side of the engine and soaking the wires. I seriously doubt it's the head gasket, since I know on my car it's BELOW the spark plug wires. I think that's the norm on the average engine anyway. Given the car has 229k miles, it's probably the valve cover gasket. Time to change it. I recommend getting it done ASAP with warm summer temps coming because leaking oil on a hot engine is a serious fire hazzard. Don't tempt fate.

Valve cover gaskets. A blown head gasket leaks water and if the rings were bad it would not show on plug wires.

your Valve cover gasket is cracked, damaged or may just need ot be retightened. After 200K I would just replace the gasket. they are cheap and simple to replace. should take about 15 minutes to 1/2 and hour depending on you experanice with automotive tasks. and assuming you have the parts waiting.
