Young people look up to a lot of actors and singers, so when they do something bad, the kids want to copy it, thinking it is "cool". I think a lot of the things going on in the media are not true, and it seems they want to provoke kids into doing bad things, for the h3ll of it (kinda like cigarettes) and last I think that it is simlpy a form of entertainment and if the media did not put something interesting in it they would be out of a job.

Young people don't learn problem solving. If they see every problem solved with violence that is the first thing that comes to mind when a problem presents itself.
Seeing too much violence numbs the mind so that when things happen in real life there is no outrage and violence is tolerated much more than in the days of Leave it to Beaver.
Violence ... young people do not develope empathy properly and do not understand the permanence of some injuries and death. They may be more likely to join in pack mentality and do things that escalate the violence.

It depends upon the focus of of the violence.

Rambo -- is a prime example of many kids imagination..Rambo and Stallone's other movies have a lot to do with adolescence boy's wish to be a hero. Stallone was a smart guy to prey upon adolescences' mind set.. Stallone and others appear (in their movies) to be picked upon and the choice always resolves itself with the picked upon (Rambo) becoming very violent and killing darn near everybody in sight. We can see what influence this can have upon growing minds. (#1)

Video games can have a real influence on young minds, some of which sould be banned ( oh,oh Here comes freedom of speach promoters !!) In these games kids get a feeling of power and personnal involvement. "Grand Theft Auto" I believe is one of the greatest problems today. I don't agree, though, that all games with violence are a problem. (#2)

Other media is a problem, too. Books and magazines can be very violent. I am not recommending the burning of books (again). Many books should be kept behind the counter and only be available, (like perscriptions and cigarettes) with ID. (#3).

I don't, however, believe the soldiers, and war be banned by the news programs and news papers. I see that the war is being self sensoring, and we get no real scence of the war. We had much more information in the Viet Nam War. Maybe we don't care enough any more.

Babies come with a load of possible charatureistics - some good, some bad. We need to focus so that good tendancies are wellcomed and the bad tendancies treated with the limiting behaviours.

I think you are asking why does the media violence have such a great affect on kids ? Well in the old days, before TV, we didn't see all the ugly stuff we see on the news now, so they didn't get visual images and they didn't get to see people get killed/murdered and shot over and over because they just didn't see it unless it happened in their town and then they weren't exposed to it so it wasn't even in their sweet little minds. Do what I say,not what I do, ha ha, they see people get angry and they shoot each other on TV,so why not in real life. Another thing on TV they show in sitcoms etc people drinking but they never who the drunks and car crashes etc. that go along with the real life issues. I hate TV.

I can't answer that question.
I think rape, molestation, gang violence, drugs, global warming, and reforming the government are more likely their biggest problems.
and those are just kids in the good ol US of A

lets take a minute to think about kids in Africa at age 7 given an ak47 to guard other kids as their are forced to look for diamonds for evil corporations and housewives.

OK OK. media violence is good. as far as news coverage goes. It helps them realize that the world is not as "perfect" as they have been led to believe.

kids are not safe outdoors (either due to air quality or the danger of stranger abduction or the danger of street gangs) and their chief form of entertainment anymore is electronic media, either tv, movies, video games, musical players or the internet.
if it was safer to send kids outdoors, they would not be over-influenced by electronic media
