Hi, I have an in-home network using a Linksys wireless router. I have one computer that is connected to the internet wirelessly using the router. All the other computers use hard wiring directly to the router. My computer that uses the wireless connection has always worked just fine, but today, I suddenly stopped being able to connect. When I try to connect to the network, I just get messages saying the connection could not be established. The network shows up on my computer and everything, and it tells me the signal strength, so I know my computer is recognizing the network. Also, sometimes the computer will connect to the network for about 10 seconds, then just drop the connection.

Does anybody have an idea why this would suddenly happen? I haven't tampered with any settings or anything, or made any new changes to my computer.

Oh, and also, I used my PSP to connect to the network wirelessly and it worked fine, so I guess that narrows it down to a computer problem.

My linksys does this every couple of weeks.. generally just rebooting the router clears the issue.

I think it has to do with the DHCP and lease expiration but just unplug the router-wait a minute-plug it back in and wait to it to self check.. Then "reapair" your connection or restart your laptop. Has always worked for me.

I finally got around the issue by putting a static IP address on my laptop (out side the DHCP range of the router) has worked ever since.

System restore would do nothing to fix a hardware issue. Presumably you didn't change any settings on the laptop or the router, the only assumption we could make is a failing in the wireless network chips in the laptop. Just try a few things first: 1, try connecting the laptop to the router with a cable, see if that works. 2, double check that the password on the laptop matches what is on the router. 3, take the laptop to someone else's house, and try to connect with that router. If you cannot connect to anybody else's router, I would believe that the wireless network chips are faulty. If they do, then the connection settings need resetting to what is on the router. If it doesn't connect, you then have two options: 1, if the laptop is still under warranty, contact the manufacturers and get them to look at it, after all it will be free. 2, if the laptop isn't under warranty, look at buying a PCMCIA or USB wireless network device. You can't replace anything inside the laptop, as it's all soldered in. Hope that helps!

Try checking the router's main connection, if it is loose, unplug it and plug it back it. Also, try shutting off the router and re-booting it. Try rebooting your laptop, sometimes it can encounter an error and disconnect from the connection and not reconnect.
