That depends upon the employer as well as the particular field of engineering. Some accountants make a great amount of money. The work long hours and very hard...especially at tax time.
Engineers work hard also. They have a higher potential earnings than accountants. Again, it depends upon the employer and the field. Electrical and mechanical engineers tend to do well. Civil engineers do well. Architectural and structural engineers work harder than the others most of the time. They don't eat or sleep. They either don't earn anything or earn like crazy. Again, tax time crunch.
In the end, it matters more that you enjoy what you are doing. Any of these careers will pay the bills. Enjoy your life.

In North America accounting is a very popular major right now. But i guess in few years it would be great to have an engineering degree, one might make a lot of money. These two though will always keep bread on your table. If you are good at it and experienced both are highly paid. I would go with engineering because there are too many accountants out there! Good luck!

yes engineers are better paid, but tax accounting is kinda an entry level role. Your main focus should be on advancement. Accounting can be a lucrative field. Many corporate controllers and chief financial officers, as well as other executives, got their start as internal auditors (a very common entry level accounting position) or in charge of certain company accounts. Engineering from what I know promotes more based on seniority, where many veterans are making over $100k. Of course many engineers also move into more supervisory or executive positions (like Jack Welch, once an electrical engineer and now CEO of General Electric).

An engineer typically makes about 20% more then an accountant. Of course there are many variables that can affect this such as employer, location and type of engineer or accountant. If you feel like investigating, there are several salary comparison websites out there.

Depends on company and business they are.
In IT is engineer, but in Audit is accountant.
I think at NASA is not that cool to be accountant, but at Federal Reserve it is.
