I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Kaspersky have the best Paid for Anti-Virus, However I have recently discovered that they have made a free to use one for AOL.
Read this link by jibbaraja
Here's some ideas to "roll ya own" Internet Security Suite for free. Free is always the best.
I like the FREE, AOL ActiveVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. ActiveVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, ActiveVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test results are here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/defa...
ActiveVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.
Updates many times per day to detect new malware.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

Or go to www.download.com .
they have a comprehensive list of programs available for free, with a top ten best Free Security Programs List

they're so many out there that you can just swap to a new antivirus when the trial runs out, but the time you've gone threw them all, they would have released a new version of the program out.
but I've used AVG free, in the past, it's good and free.

I acquire this computer from my nephew. When I logged onto the web for the first time, it was so congested it barely worked. I downloaded PC Tool Firewall. Then AVAST ANIVIRUS 4.7 free Home Edition & has removed well over a hundred Trojans or infected files. Now my Windows 2000 Pro PC is running great.
The program is easy to use & can scan while you are working on the computer.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free.

AVG free or Spybot search and destroy are the best free ones. I use the two in conjunction for maximum results. Spybot even immunises your computer aggainst possible attacks.
