Find TDC compression #1.

Place spark plug wire #1 at the point of the rotor onto the distributor cap.

Install additional wires in firing order in proper rotational direction on the cap.

Plug appropriate wires onto spark plugs in firring order.

Start engine and set timing by rotating distributor.

See how easy it was????

I would say you have the wires out of sequence, check the firing order and rearrange the wires accordingly, and if the wires are right you have the distriburator 180 degrees out.

Myself,, I think you didnt get the distributor back to the very tooth that the old one was lined up with but then some cars you cant mess it up, except 180 degreees out, you didnt say whether it is electronic ignition or not,, but if it has points to it,, then check the gap of the points that can affect it also,

More than likely you did neither. You probably messed up the firing order of the cylinders when you replaced the wires.
In order to fix your mess, you must find the correct firing order for your engine, and then place the wires in the correct order.
Search for the FIRING ORDER for your particular motor in your car.
