I know the feeling my best friend is the same way. I try telling her all the time that she doesn't need a guy to make her happy. But she just doesn't listen. There's no certain way of getting a guy. Like you said she's your best friend and you don't want her dating some creep. So I suggest that she just be her self and go do things and if you know any good guys set her up with them.

She's hunting in the wrong pasture. She needs to get out of your house and become involved in some activities. If she wants a man she has to go where they are. Unless, you have a collection of available men in your house, she needs to go bowling, take a wine tasting class or do something that single men do.
Tell her to get a job at a home center. Contractors are good. Generally, they're in shape and make nice $$$$.

i think that's a decision your friend should make for herself. she knows what kind of guy she likes and dislikes but are you really sure she's acting like this because she needs a boyfriend. probably you need to talk to her and ask her why she's been acting differently. don't jump to that conclusion because then she might get offended because she might think you think she's desperate. so discuss this situation first then you can see what's the problem

I don't think she should rush into finding a boyfriend.
either shes TOO picky, and needs to lighten up a bit on who she's willing to date, or maybe she just hasnt found the right guy
you can't pick some random gyu and expect for him to be the right one for you...if you make a lousy pick, they'll end up brekaing up soon after causing even more depression.
hope everything works out!

she should be herself but defintely go out and enjoy herself. she would be surprised how many men are attracted to a woman with confidence in herself. if she can go out and understand that being single doesn't have to mean lonliness. she has to take joy in knowing and loving herself before someone else can. self esteem means lvoe for self.

Why don't you hook her up? I don't think she could find herself a BF while in depression. Invite someone to your house and introduce him to your friend. Someone who likes potato chips, maybe? :-D
EDIT: Point about your house. She obviously feels safe there. So I'm thinking it'd be much better if you invite them both to your own place.
