The children at the T. Don Hutto Residential Center in Taylor live in cells & wear uniforms & receive inadequate medical and educational services. They're guilty of no crimes & endanger no1. Their parents are incarcerated here because they are seeking Asylum after fleeing such circumstances as war, torture, political persecution & rape. Teachers at the center aren't required to be licensed in Texas, and the state’s family welfare agency exempted Hutto licensing requirements. Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) is paid 2.8 million dollars a month (7k per child per month or 84k per child per year) to keep these children behind bars. Each child is OBVIOUSLY not getting 7k worth of treatment. Where is the rest of the money going? Why are people allowed to make a profit off of incarcerated children? The ACLU is fighting this, and the UN has been denied access to investigate any crimes being committed. Why is this legal on US soil? Plz See : http://www.myspace.com/free_the_children

I have visited residents inside Hutto on multiple occasions. Hutto is not an acceptable method of insuring that aliens attend their court hearings. ICE should use ankle bracelets or halfway homes as an alternative to detention. Above all else, asylum seekers should be guaranteed a reasonable bond after they have passed their CFI.

Have you heard about all of the Iraqis that are currently being detained? From what I understand the number is close to twenty. We force their country into a civil war, then we lock them up here in Texas.

- No I don't think incarcerating innocent children for profit should be legal!!! Check out the myspace website for lots of details or just Google--the Internet is full of information.
- As usual, some people thought they had a great idea--keeping families together--but then when it got out there, other people figured out how they could make a ton of money by turning people into a commodity.
- Our government at all levels has gotten very good at this--making money anyway they can with no concern for the most vulnerable people among us--women and children in desperate circumstances.
- Write your elected representatives no matter where you live in the USA and ask questions and demand action about what we're doing to asylum seekers. When ICE won't let the UN visit, you know something's rotten in Hutto!
- Many in this country have done a great job of demonizing people from Mexico...but it doesn't apply at Hutto--all "prisoners" are from countries other than Mexico. No Mexican citizens are in Hutto. The people held at Hutto come from all over the globe.

i didnt watch the myspace thing, but its not only children. this country has turned jail happy, and theres big profits in it. our judicial system is one of the most corrupt in the world. the only reason they dont kill people is because theres no money in it. states have their own constitutions, so they can do what they want and they do. it is not legal, but we have a president who breaks laws all the time, more than any other before him. the government has turned into a very competitive business, making money any way it can. it no longer represents the majority. it would be interesting to know who owns the cca. theres where the rest of the money is going.

Thank you for bringing this to public attention. If its as bad as you say, something needs to be done, its not just wrong, its against the Constitution. Is there any way you can call this in to a radio talk show, such as Air America Radio? Or perhaps suggest it as a news story to either a local TV station or perhaps CNN? I am afraid its just another example of why privatizing everything, prisons in this case, has not been a very wise idea in all cases. Thank you again for your alertness in calling this to public attention.

This is truly a disturbing document and I guess while I knew that somehow they would have to deal with the children in these horrid camps I somehow envisioned them with their parents. You can bet I will check into this more even tho I am a simple person who cant make much difference to these poor children.

I don't understand how they are locked up as you say and not with social services. You are confusing because are the parents locked up in the (USA) pen for seeking freedom here in America?? I don't get it. Explain more. Add to question
