What I mean is from the inside of the window or from trim to trim

Depending on what you are measuring for. If it is for blinds, you need to measure the window from side to side. If it for a replacement window you will need to measure from side to side and top to bottom. Will will also need to add 1"-1 1/4" to account for drywall/Sheetrock (1/2 or 5/8).

Not sure what you are measuring for? If you are talking about replacing the window, you should measure the rough opening the window will be installed in.
