I have chatted with this police officer for nearly 2 years.I had done a background check on him to see if he was lying.Because you hear about all the dangers of online dating.I just wanted to see before we meet.Now he is mad about what I did and said that I crossed the line.If he was any type of police officer he should know abot how dangerous online dating is.So now he wants to pess charges saying that I'm stalking and harrassing him.I don't know even really know his address.On the background check it only had the name and number.Is what I did wrong.

What you did is not wrong if the background check information was of public record. If you obtained any information illegally, the yes he can press charges.
And remember, wanting to press charges and actually doing so are two different things. Alot of people get angry for any number of things and threaten charges, suits, etc. I would just wait it out and see what comes of it.

I don't think you did anything wrong. But making a police officer mad can result in repurcussions, make sure if this goes any further that you have a complaint ready to file with the Çivil Service Commission if he continues to threaten you in any way. They oversee police officer conduct.

What you did was not wrong or illegal, to the contrary i think it was rather smart. However his reaction is irrational. If I was you I would cut all contact with this individual. Change email addresses, phone numbers... whatever he has on you.
