From what I understand, stage 2 foods are the same consistency as stage 1 foods, but come in larger containers and more (and combined) flavors. After your child has safely had stage 1 foods, allowing a 4 day interval between each food introduction to isolate allergies, and is no longer satisfied by the amount of food in a stage 1 container you can move to the stage 2 foods. Since there are more flavors offered in stage 2 than 1, you'll want to continue with the 4 day intervals for any new flavors (but should be fine with combinations of already tried foods).

My son was eating stage 1 foods from 4-6 months, and now he is on stage 2 foods. I think that goes until about 9 months (if you play by the "rules") :)
My ped said that the difference between 1 and 2 stages isn't very much, but the difference between 2-3 is more obvious, so I should wait until 9 months for that change.
Good luck!

stage 1 is from 4-6 months, then stage 2 is from 6 months, but be careful what you start giving them in the stage 2, because they are more likely to get a little contipated with some foods, so a little bit at a time is best and wait to see how they go.

about 6 months for stage 2.
Mine got it at 5 1/2. I
f they spit it up after a few bites not ready for it yet. My lil girl did it and i gave that type(vegitable mix) a break and tried again a week later. Same for a few other types of food.
