The younger you are, the less likely you will get SSDI payments. At age 18, you'd pretty much have to be a quad amputee. SSA will go to extreme lengths along the lines of rehab before they'll approve you for SSDI. If your own doctor is leery about it, you don't stand a chance.

Well, I work in the disability field. One thing you should know is that you have to be able to show that you are completely disabled and that your disability is expected to last at least 12 months. It's not necessarily up to your doctor. Even with a doctor who had stated you are "totally disabled" social security can still turn you down, if they feel like you are able to perform sedentary work (the lightest kind of work, like a desk job). My best advice to you would be to find a lawyer or social security disability specialist (you should be able to find one of those "No fee unless we win your case" kind). In my office, our fee is a percentage of any back pay you receive if we win your case. Now, it is unlikely that someone like that will take your case if they don't think they can help you win, because it is a waste of time for them and you (and of course, they won't take a case if they don't think there is a chance of getting paid). You can start the process yourself, by going into your local social security office to file for disability (regardless of what your doctor has said). However you should know most people get denied at the initial level and have to file an appeal, after that, you can get a representative to help you when it comes to the hearing level (which is the 2nd appeal). Know before you even go in though, that you can't apply for disability if you are still working. You can go to the social security website for more details about the process. Good luck to you friend.

Social Security may help but I believe they will only help with the disability part, but there would be a slight chance they might send you a monthly check for a certain amount of time, then they will stop all together.

It usually takes about a year or so to actually get through all of the BS to get disability income. You need to hire a good lawyer and either sue your doctor or ask your doctor why you aren't considered disabled. I am trying to get my fiance to get on disability right now because he has Diabetes and Depression and he don't think he can, but i know he can. But if your doctor refuses to sign the form. Then sue his butt. You are clearly disabled. That doctor just doesn't want more money coming out of his pocket. Yeah, seriously, just hire a lawyer because if you sue your doctor you are probably gonna get disability and money that you could have had if your doc woulda signed that form a long time ago (lost wages..and such)

Have you attempted to go through Social Security for disability? Go to your closest Social Security Administration office and apply there.

You can get treatment for your back. There is surgery also.
You must be young and healthy except for your back or you would get the help you need.

Maybe you need to change doctors or contact your state department for more information.
