This could apply to anything unhealthy, including smoking. How much power do we give the government?

Fast food restaurants aren't the only cause of obesity. Foods in grocery stores and regular restaurants can be just as bad. The main reasons for obesity in America are our food choices and lack of exercise. You can also get healthy foods such as salads at fast food restaurants as well. So unless they decide how much everyone should exercise each day and what everyone gets to eat, shutting down fast food restaurants would be useless.

1. A lot of the numbers on these obesity studies are pretty loose. I read one where I, being a 40 yr old male 6'2" 230 lbs, was classified as obese. Now I'm no buff body builder but I am by no means obese. The people doing these so called studies need to get on the same page and come up with realistic numbers.
2. Contrary to liberal beliefs, it is not the governments job to babysit us. Americans have to get off their asses and excersise to stop obesity.

There is not but one thing I would like the government to do.
That is to tell us what does not cause cancer. My mother could eat three bisquits and seems like she would gain ten pounds. I seen last night on TV that tonight there is a special coming on that says what we eat is poisen, this from the producers of veggies, and whatever.
The thing that gets me is the fact that we are placed on this earth for a very short time. WE WILL DIE! Yes, some before others. The only reason research is going on now is to help those that have not even been born yet to overcome the diseases that took, or will take our lives. I read not long ago that we have passed over the cure, and preventive for cancer, and "missed it". But the government does not have the resorces to start back over.

First, isn't eating "fast food" a choice. A choice, that we, as Americans are allowed to make? No, I do not think that these restaurants should be closed because some Americans choose to eat there on a regular basis. This, once again, is their decision. This is not one that the government needs to make for us, but the decision that we need to make for ourselves.

Only if they ban cigarettes and force people to exercise.
People have to have SOME responsibility of their own health. If you cannot make proper decisions as an adult then maybe we should focus our energy on that problem as opposed to the government controlling our decisions.
But you would also have to get rid of all the unhealthy food in stores and food used to prepare unhealthy food. It woundt just be fast food you would have to shut down.
Part of the problem is also thequantity of food people eat...and if you regulate that well...thats just nuts.
People have to accept and be responcible for their actions, bottom line.

No, they don't need to. The insurance industry has managed to get several "riders" attached to legislation that allows them to refuse to pay for health care or pay off on life insurance if the person covered eats "fast" food.
What incentive is their for the Gov't to shut down one of the things that fools people into thinking they have a life?

Hell no! NOBODY is forcing people to go into these restaurants. I am normal weight and I love having my double cheeseburger and fries every once in a while, I would hate to have that possibility taken away from me because too many people are irresponsible about what they eat.

no because the skinny people who eat it sparingly should not have to suffer just because some fat kid eats it all day and gets even fatter and then fatter and then all of a sudden he dies.I don't think that it's fair because it was the fat kids choice to eat that junk all the time!I think that it would be ok to eat fast food occansionaly but not every day cuz i mean how many of u would get sick of it i know i would!lol although i have seen some little kids and i'm older than them by like 8 years and they are bigger than me and also taller cause i'm 5'3" and skinny and then u see these little 4th graders who are like 5'5" and they are really! really! fat and i mean fat!!!!!! so maybe if we cut out some fast food an like force people to exercise it would cut down on obesity!or we could just send them to china or japan or something i'm sure they wouldn't like the food over there so then they could just eat their fat or maybe some canibals could eat some off and send them back to AMERICA!!!!!!!lol

No, because its the peoples choice whether they eat bad food or good food and therefore their own choice if they become obese.
