Was working great and then lagged and stopped. The hum is all it does now. Any tool savvy people out there?

Thanks wwwstat. I got out my trusty screwdrivers and took it apart. In the front, there were two gears. The lower gear has 2 teeth broken off. The small gear from the armature was stuck in the space left by the two missing teeth. Isn't it GREAT to learn something? Too bad I can't fix it. Thanks to all of you for your answers!

the eccentric gear could be your problem.this is what drives the moving part of your jigsaw..if the motor part didnt smoke it is probably not burnt up....if it hums the brushes arent bad...the brushes are part of the circuit and if they were bad motor wouldnt hum...I would suggest you take the gear head apart and see if something has broke or come loose...

If it is battery powered, then the battery is low. If not, then it must be an electrical malfunction within the saw. Since it does hum when you pull the trigger, that means that the motor is working, but it might be an electrical part in there not making it run.
My husband's tools are Craftsman, and are battery powered. So, if it is battery powered, take the battery out, and fully charge it, then try the saw again. If it still doesn't work, contact the manufacturer, or take it to Sears and ask about what to do, since Sears sells Craftsman products.
Hope this helps.

Normally, brushes can be replaced. Look for one or two plastic rounds that have a screwdriver slot in them. I am thinking that the blade mechanism has gotten blocked with sawdust and cannot move.
