I changed the water to see if it would help-it didn't. He is not swimming. He just dangles at the top of his bowl. I have a small 1/2 gallon bowl with a phake plant. He was moving a few days ago alot. He is not belly up- just normal body position- but blowng bubbles and not swimming at all.

He is lethargic, floats along at the top at a 45 degree angle- yet he eats his pellets. Not sure what to do?

Probably just a bit cool in the bowl. While a tank is usually a better option, I have raised literally thousands of bettas in 1/2 gallon bowls and kept many for over 5 years in such containers. Assuming you do a full water change every 2-3 days it's quite possible for them to live long healthy lives in a bowl. Check the temperature and be sure it's in the mid 70's or better.

Bettas don't last long in the little bowls. Like any fish they need a real aquarium. Go get yourself a 3-5g tank and your next betta will live for years if you take care of it.

Sorry to say but it sounds like your current fella is done for....

You may be able to save him if you can get him into a warm tank 75-80 degrees and keep him there and add some melafix to his water to cure any possible bacterial infections.

I'd say that he is just resting. Those Betta fish are silly sometimes.

I hope yours is ok

I kid you not, this is a true story. My male Betta unknowingly jumped out of his bowl. I saw him on the floor thinking he was a hair ball from the cat. He was floor jerky and looked to have been there for a long time! I tossed him in the toilet and went about my business. Two hours later the darn thing was swimming in the used toilet bowl!!!! I scooped him out and put him back in his bowl, but he died soon after that.

Mine does this a lot.. I'd say he's sleeping.. bored. And they dont NEED a filter and all that.. they are labyrinth fish, they have a modified lung so they can breathe the air. My bettas are always happier when they are in the big tank with other types of fish, but since you can only have one betta per tank...

Mash a pea and drop it in his bowl. It should make him feel better. I've heard of two distinct instances in which this worked perfectly. Don't be sad if it doesn't make it, though.
